Sofia Kenin the world no 4 and Australian Open champion lost the quarter final match in Abu Dhabi Open to Maria Sakkari in three sets.
This was the third failure of Sofia Kenin in her 14 quarter finals match in tournament. Kenin successfully won the first set match but unfortunately she lost the quarter finals to the ninth seeded Maria Sakkari for 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Sakkari hit nine aces against Sofia Kenin but Kenin has no aces. In the total 23 winners American players won 8 places.

In the semifinals Sakkari will face Aryna Sabalenka the fourth seeded player who continuously won 13 tournament matches. She got qualified for semi finals by defeating Elena Rybakina for 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
In the previous season Sabalenka won titles like Ostrava and Linz indoor tournaments. She initiates this year 2021 by winning four matches in Abu Dhabi. In the previous four meetings of Sabalenka and Sakkari, three matches were won by Sabalenka and all the matches were played on hard courts.
