World No. 1 in men’s singles Carlos Alcaraz met tennis icon Maria Sharapova at this year’s National Bank Open in Toronto.
Similar to Maria Sharapova, Alcaraz embarked on a remarkable beginning to his career, swiftly ascending to the status of a Grand Slam champion and attaining the world’s highest ranking.

The 17-year-old Maria Sharapova became a Grand Slam champion after beating Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final 2004. After that Sharapova became the world No 1 for the first time in her tennis career at the age of 18.
Just like Sharapova last year, Alcaraz was 19 years while he became a Grand Slam champion at the US Open and also the top-ranked player in the world.
Alcaraz said,
“I remember last year I didn’t have a good tournament in Canada, So I come this year to change it. I hope to go far, do better than last season. I think I have learned a lot from that and i know how to deal with pressure situation.
I have been playing in big stadiums, big games, fighting with big players. I think that experience helped me a lot to grow as a player, as a person. Now a days, I’m totally different.”
