Thorpe mentions it as a useful shot but also he warned the batsman not to use the sweeping in front of the spinners. Thorpe said in a video conference “In India the surface might not turn straight away some time”.

“The match can hold on and there will be a sudden change on day three or after day 3”.

“To be successful in the field you must know when and where you have to use the Sweep shot. Place the fielders in the perfect place and it will help you to rotate the strike”.

The England former test batsman says that the team members no need to look the skipper Joe Root for how to play the shot. He also says that, “He makes a good position for himself”.

There are many shots like fine sweep, Square sweep and Slog sweep. I hope he calculates the line and length of the delivery and take decision from where he was able to apply it. Thorpe also advised not to underestimate the India’s pace attack which was lead by Jasprit Bumrah.
