The Serbian professional tennis player Novak Djokovic withdrew from Toronto Masters and National Bank Open on Sunday. Novak wished to rest following his loss to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon 2023 final and he cited fatigue.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak was set to begin his hard-court preparations for the US Open after he falling against the top-ranked Alcaraz last Sunday in a five-set final at Wimbledon 2023. Djokovic, he has won the National Bank Open four times.

The 36-year-old Djokovic said,
“I have always enjoyed with my time in Canada but after speaking with my team, we believe that this is the right decision to take. I would like to thank the tournament director Karl Hale, for understanding this decision and I really hope I can return to Canada and Toronto in the coming years to play in front of great fans there.”
Director Karl Hale said,
“We are really get disappointed that Novak won’t be playing at the National Bank Open in this year. Novak is an incredible player and we know our fans were eager to watch at Sobeys Stadium.”
